“Welcome
back Brothers and Sisters to Unity in the Community on your voice,
the Voice of Islam”.
If you are tuned to the Voice of
Islam from 4pm to 5 pm, Monday to Saturday, you will be familiar
with ‘Unity in the Community’. Unity in the Community
was established four years ago. It is a program that educates the
Muslim and non-Muslim youth about Islam and it helps convey the
message of the truth. Unity in the Community is a program where
young and old can tune in and contribute by answering questions,
reciting Quran or even just saying Assalamu alaikum, peace be with
you, to the listeners and presenters. There are different segments
throughout the show from Islamic stories for little hearts to a
guide to understanding Islam.

A group of young Muslim girls make
up the team of UTC and they have their own stories of how they got
involved with the team, from being introduced to it from the Annual
Muslim Women’s Association Youth Camp or from having a friend
tell them about it. Some of the girls wanted to do there part in
the community, so they asked the Muslim Women Association, they
suggested they should join UTC and contribute their small part by
getting involved.
It is a great experience for the
presenters and a great way for communication between different parts
of the community. From this experience it helps the girls to learn
how to operate the controls and be a leader for the unique program.
All the girls involved with UTC had
different and interesting things to say about the program:
Mehal, 16, from Picnic Point told
us that “getting involved in Unity in the Community sounded
like a lot of fun and it was a chance for me to be part of an excellent
team of girls, who’d be able to teach me new things. It was
also a great opportunity for me to do my little part for our community”.
Samah, a Year 10 student from Greenacre:
“I really benefit from the program; it’s a great experience”.
Zeinab, 16, from Parramatta: “Working
with the other presenters has helped me change my attitude and perspective”.
Fatima, a Year 12 student from Lakemba
said: “By contributing to UTC it helps me know that I am helping
the community which makes me feel good and inspired”.
Iman, 19, from Greenacre says, “The
objective of UTC is to unite everyone on the program”.
Fatma, a first year university student:
“The UTC program has been running for a long time and has
benefited many youngsters. I loved it when I was small and I hope
that teenagers would love it today. Hopefully it will get better
as we go on, Inshallah, God willing”.
