Asbestos Safety

The Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency (ASEA) is the best resource for more information regarding asbestos. ASEA was established in 2013 to oversee federal actions to improve asbestos awareness and the effective and safe management, removal and disposal of asbestos.

Asbestos Import/Export & Testing

Asbestos was banned in Australia in 2003. As such producing, importing and exporting goods with asbestos is illegal, except in very limited circumstances. It is the responsibility of the importer or exporter to ensure that their products do not contain any asbestos.

The Australian Border Force (ABF) regulates the import and export of goods at the border. You will find more information on importing and exporting asbestos on their website.

If you would like information to testing products that you are importing or exporting, please head here.

Asbestos Assessment & Removal

You can find details on asbestos assessors and removalists by contacting the relevant authority in your state or territory on ASEA’s asbestos safety concerns page.

You can use the ACM Check app to check for the possibility of asbestos being on your property (find in App Store or Google Play). You can also use the Victorian governments find and identify asbestos tool.

You can find out more details on the environmental laws by visiting the website of the environmental regulator of your state and territory. These are also available on ASEA’s contacts page.

If you need to dispose of asbestos you can find an asbestos disposal facility here.
