Making a gift in your Will
Leaving a gift to Reflections in your Will is more than just a donation – it’s one of the most profound ways to reduce the devastating impact of asbestos and give hope to those affected by it. It’s a powerful legacy that will continue to influence lives long after you’re gone. By including Reflections in your estate planning, you play a vital role in our mission, contributing to a future where asbestos-related diseases no longer claim 4,000 Australian lives every year.
Writing a Will gives us all a moment to reflect on the past and think about what we want our legacy to look like. In our End-of-Life Planning booklet, we provide comprehensive information about the documents, processes, agreements, and decisions that need to be considered. This is the fifth booklet in The Hope Companion, our support resource for people affected by mesothelioma. You can request your copy here.
Why leave a gift to Reflections?
On average, one person dies every 12 hours in Australia from mesothelioma. Our work to combat this silent killer is far from over. As a community-funded organisation that receives no government funding, we’ve been grateful to have helped so many West Australians affected by this disease.
“Reflections do not charge for the support they give but what they have given me is priceless. They gave me back some hope.” Brigitte, Client
Your bequest ensures that we can continue offering free support to those affected by asbestos-related illnesses, just as we have done since our humble beginnings in 2012, when we hosted our first morning tea in our Founders’ home.
Western Australia has some of the highest rates of mesothelioma – an aggressive terminal cancer caused by asbestos – in the world. So, your legacy will also help us to continue raising awareness about the dangers of asbestos, sparking important conversations and funding programs and training that could save lives.
How to include a gift to Reflections in your Will
We have provided guidance on how to leave a bequest and recommend seeking professional legal advice to ensure your wishes are accurately reflected in your Will.
There are several ways you can include a gift to Reflections in your Will:
- Residual Gift: This is the remainder of your estate after all other bequests, expenses, and debts have been fulfilled. You can choose to leave the entire residue or a percentage of it.
- Pecuniary Gift: This is a specific sum of money.
- Specific Items of Value: You may choose to bequeath a particular asset of value, such as property, shares, jewellery, or works of art.
